European Parliament Election Results in Germany
CDU/CSU Overtakes Greens as Strongest Party
Turnout at 61.4%, 41 Political Associations Participated
The 2019 European Parliament election in Germany, held on 26 May 2019, saw 41 political associations compete for the 96 German seats in the European Parliament.
Notably, except for the CDU (Christian Democratic Union), all parties except for the CSU (Christian Social Union) competed only in states other than Bavaria, where the CSU was the sole competitor.
A significant shift occurred with the CDU/CSU surpassing the Greens as the strongest party, securing 29 seats in the European Parliament. The Greens, who had emerged as the strongest party in the 2018 state elections, maintained their position in the European Parliament election.
